Selena

She broke down barriers within the music business as a singer, performer and designer. She was Mexican-American, but still traditional. She introduced Tejano to mainstream culture. Her untimely death splintered her growing popularity and, like many times when a bright deeply genial superstar dies young, she caused many to grieve her unrealized potential. In the following years, people were motivated to do their best in order to ensure that her achievements would not be forgotten. Her tragic murder by a gunman caused an outpouring of emotion in Latino communities, similar to those who reacted to Elvis Presley's death and John Lennon's. Selena's music, a singer who was hugely popular across Latino Communities across North America touched people young as well as old. Selena might have been described by certain people as the Latina Madonna, however she's still a fantastic character model. Selena's family values off stage and her participation with AIDS awareness campaigns make her a good example.
